Picton 8/ 29/2018

We left Belleville and came the 30 miles or so into Picton.  We’ve got time to kill and Picton seemed like a great spot to do that.  Also we’ve watched the weather and higher winds and some rain were forecasted for a few days and we wanted to be tied up and be able to run AC if we needed to close up the boat during the rain.  Picton is on the north side of Prince Edward County and we had come through here when we rented a car, so we knew it would be a sweet spot.  It is well protected from south winds and that’s exactly what we’ve been having.

This is a small town, less than 5,000 residents, except in the summer.  They say the population triples in the summertime and I can see why.  There are a lot of old homes turned into B & Bs, many cute shops and a lot of restaurants.  Being surrounded by wineries doesn’t hurt.  Every day we’ve leashed Maggie and take a stroll through the area. We did find one brewery that has a dog friendly area.  I found a great little yarn shop and had to treat myself to some cool yarn.  Some of you know that in my spare time on the boat, I have been knitting or crocheting caps for chemo patients.  It helps fill the down time and I feel like I am doing something of value to help others.  Ive had an itch to expand my skills and try knitting socks.  So, I am bought some patterned sock yarn and am giving it a go.  As you can see, Maggie keeps me company as I work.  I’ll show you the finished product in a couple weeks.

As we drove around the county last week, we noticed a lot o old buildings and barns with painted quilt pieces on them.  Today, while walking we saw many more and then saw a sign explaining.  There is a PEC Quilt Trail that leads you to all of the Barn Quilts in the county.  I am giving you just a sample that we saw today.

We walked to the Crystal Palace just outside of town.

I’ll leave you with a few other pictures of just a few of the picturesque old homes in town.  Tomorrow we’ll head back to the 1000 islands area and find a spot to drop the anchor for a couple nights before we head into Clayton.
