Baltimore, Billy and the Blue Angels 5/24/2016

Tim and I finally had a rain free day to head out and explore Baltimore.  We took full advantage of the sunshine and got out early.  Everyone else in town had the same idea and the walkways were packed with dog walkers, bike riders, baby strollers and people like us just happy to be out on a beautiful day.  We started with a mile walk to Target and back, then picked up Maggie and headed toward Fells Point for a self walking tour.  This winter, I bought a book through Amazon on Walking Tours in Baltimore.  We used it to guide us down the Civil War Trail and Fells Point Tour of historic buildings.   Below, I’ve included pictures of some of the sites.

This is a solar powered garbage eater. It’s nice to see the city is doing something about the  garbage in the water, but they need to do a whole lot more. Baltimore has one of the dirtiest harbors we’ve seen on our trip.
Professor Trash Wheel was expected to collect thousands of pounds of trash each year according to the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore.

One of many murals we saw.

In honor of our buddy, Billy, joining us, Maggie got a much needed bath and blow dry. I had hoped to give her a better grooming, but again the rains came and we had to settle for just a scissored face trim.

Compare this picture of the Francis Scott Key Bridge with the one from the lasting post. Such a prettier day.

The weather man promised perfect weather for the next few days and for once he was right.  With Billy on board, we left the dock in Baltimore around 7:30 and pointed the bow south for Annapolis.  With this being graduation weekend at the naval academy, slips and mooring balls were hard to secure, but Tim was able to snag us one at Annapolis Maryland Capital Yacht Club.  We pulled in around 11:30 and got comfy for an amazing Blue Angels show.  This was to be a practice for the graduation show on Friday and we had some of the best seats in the house.  Our back deck faced out onto the Severn River which was the main stage for show.  The entertainment started early as we watch boats big and small jockey for prime anchoring spots.  As the wind freshened, the excitement built too as anchors began to drag and captains and crews scrambled to reset.  And then they come.  Six blue and gold aircraft, flying in perfect formation, appeared out of the north and flew right over our boat.  What a show!  It’s so amazing to see how close to each other they can fly.  Our heads kept turning from right to left, left to right, up and down as the jets screamed back and forth.  So cool.

Here are links to some videos Tim took of the Blue Angels.

Today promises to be another perfect weather day and we’ll head into town to tour the Naval Acadamy and play tourist.  I can’t wait to get going.  I’ll tell you about it when we get back.
