Rain, Rain and RAIN- Annapolis and Baltimore 5/20/2018

The title says just about everything. From the time we arrived in Annapolis until sometime last night, we have had almost continuous rain.  Sometimes it was just a drizzle and at other times it was a downpour.  With the wet came the cold.  We woke yesterday to a chill and the heater was my friend. But today experts guarantee a blue sky and warmth.  I have no doubt about what to wear today.  As I write this at 8am on Sunday, windows and doors are open for the first time in days and the promise of 80+ degrees seems very accurate.

So, back to Annapolis.  We left St. Micheals for the 4 hour cruise across the bay in very light winds and rain.  Our buddies aboard Exhale lead the way to the Annapolis Mooring field.  Fortunately the rain let up as we pulled into the harbor and grabbing the mooring ball was a piece of cake.  Mary, Exhale, took some action photos of my action.  Once settled, we donned our rain jackets and umbrellas, called the water taxi and headed into town.  As we wandered the shops and looked for a dog friendly lunch stop, the brief reprieve from rain came to an abrupt stop.  The sky opened up as we ducked under the awning at Federal House for a yummy lunch with the dogs.  Our girls were more than welcomed by the staff and were presented with their own menu.  The meal was a hit for all of us.  We only spent a short time site seeing as the rain became relentless and we found the water taxi to deliver us back to the boats.

Picking up a mooring ball begins with Tim driving us to the ball where I use a boat hook to grab the line attached to thhe ball.
Then I run a line attached to our bow through the eye back to the boat.
Once I have our line cleated back to the boat, Tim comes down to help adjust and we add a second line that is cleated to the other side of the bow.

With higher winds forecasted for Friday afternoon, we all decided to make the cruise up to Baltimore a day early.  Once again we followed Exhale out in drippy, cool conditions.  This time, throw in a good dose of fog.

Exhale is ahead of us as we approach the Frances Scott Key Bridge.

Anchorage Marina will be our home for a while.  It is a large marina with slips that are privately owned.  The floating docks are a little rough, but there is an amazing boater’s lounge and we are very near a grocery store and many restaurants.  Food!  We were all starving so we followed a local recommendation and started our stroll (in the rain) to La Scala in Little Italy.  OMG!  What a meal.  I think my favorite part was the grilled Caesar’s salad.  SOOO good.

While we out and about, we saw a banner urging us to join the local Polish community for a Polish Spring Festival.  The promise of home made pierogi convinced us.  So, Saturday morning, in the rain, Mary and Rick, Exhale and Tim and I walked up to the Holy Rosary Church to support their effort to raise money for a new slate roof.  After taste testing the pierogi, cabbage rolls, Kielbasa and pastries, we bought a dozen potato and a dozen sauerkraut Pierogi for the freezer.

We had to sample a Pima Royale. Hmmm Interesting.

And now, Tim, Maggie and I are on our own.  Mary, Rick and pup, Maddie Sue flew out to LA for a few days.  By the time they return to Exhale, we will have added Billy to our crew and headed back out to Annapolis and St Michaels.  It is said that doing the loop introduces you to great friends and we certainly feel that with Rick and Mary.  We look forward to seeing you guys somewhere on the water.
