April 28, 2017- Friendly faces in the Abacos

It has been wonderful having friends and family visit us.  As I’ve said many times lately- I love Tim, but after 6 mos of 24/7 togetherness, it is wonderful to see new faces and hear different stories.  Kitty and Bill Chalfont, friends from Clear Lake Shores, spent 3 days with us.  Then my nephew and his wife, Jessie and Mackenzie Turner, stayed on the boat 5 nights.  We took them to some of the places Tim and I had been before and went to some that we had not gotten to yet.  Now we are back at Mangoes in Marsh Harbor cleaning and resting up for Beth and Mark Atherton’s visit in May.

Jess and Mack arrived on Saturday and we left that afternoon for Treasure Cay.  We knew a storm would be coming in on Sunday and wanted to be in a safe harbor by then.

Someone was a bit sleepyonthewayto Treasure Cay.

We left Treasure Cay and headed to Man-O-War.  We spent the day walking around the island and enjoying the cool water before heading in for the night.

We enjoyed wading in the Atlantic. It was a bit too rocky to get in too deep.

We were going to leave early the next morning to cross the Whale and get into Green Turtle Cay for high tide.  We were the second boat to go over the Whale that day, so we didn’t have anyone else’s experience to let us know what conditions to expect.  It turned out to be OK, a bit rolly, but not too bad.  As we crossed, we were hailed by several other boats wanting to know how the trip was.  We gave a thumbs up.  We were greeted at Leeward Yacht Club by Kim and Rob who we had traveled with earlier.  It’s always fun running into buddies.  Lunch at Bluff Harbor, feeding the turtle at CoCo Beach, swimming and combing for shells at Gilliam Bay, Goombay Smashes at Pineapples and at Miss Emily’s and we had a long, full day.

We left Green Turtle and stopped at No Name Cay to feed the pigs.  Tim  and Maggie waited in the dinghy while Jess, Mack and I tossed old bread and lettuce to the pigs.  Some of the larger ones were pretty aggressive, swimming out and jumping up on their hind legs, even trying to get into the dinghy.  We kept Tim and Maggie at a safe distance.  I was not going to let Maggie be a treat for any of those pigs.  From there we cruised east to Great Guana and lunch at Grabbers followed by a walk on the beach at Nippers before heading back to Marsh Harbor.  Jess and Mack left the next morning to head back to Rapid City and reality.  We really loved having them on the boat.

Ive been trying for a couple days to upload more pictures or your viewing pleasure, unfortunately it isn’t happening and I want to get this posted.  It’s going out now without the pics.  Ill send some later if I figure out what the problem is.

  1. I was wondering when you were going to write again, I’ve noticed a lot of boat activity so I knew you had been doing ‘stuff.’ It grand that your nephew and wife were able to join you for a bit, can just imagine what a treat that was for them! And then all your assorted friends, super!

Life here is good – everyone is happy. Andrew just turned 3 years, PJ 3 months and Mike 50 years, so there was a BIG party last weekend.

Look forward to seeing ‘the pictures.’
    Love to you all, Elayne
