3/12/2107. Okeechobee Waterway

Day light Saving Time caught us starting a bit late today.  We left the dock at Ft Myers around 9 am with a goal of getting to River Forest Marina just east of La Belle this afternoon.  We want to be at River Forest tonight so we can be hauled out first thing in the morning.  Our fingers and toes are crossed that we only will need our props to be balanced.  That may take a day or two depending on if they can be fixed there or if they have to be taken somewhere.  If more work is needed….. well we’ll deal with it.  Meanwhile we have to go through 2 locks and have 2 bridges opened.  All of this, and 40 nm of water need to be covered by 4:30 when the last lock closes for the day.

The sailboat, Still Crazy, locks in behind us at Franklin Lock.
Looking at the Alva Bridge, waiting for an opening.
Really??? On the Okeechobee Waterway??? In March?????

Our last few days in Ft Myers have been spent provisioning for the Bahamas.  We rented a car for two days and packed it up.  Two trips to Walmart, a stop at Sam’s, had to go to Publix and finally the stocking up at ABC Liquor Store.  Our new 3.5 cu freezer is full as are the fridges and small freezer inside.

We’ve also really enjoyed spending evenings with Luke and Juliene.  Ft Myers has so much to offer and its always more fun when you get to play with others.  Last night was Bike Night and the streets were overrun with motorcycles of all types and the crazy people watching all that  goes along with them.

Cocktails at the Sky Bar with Luke and Juliene.

Checking out the bikes.
