Orillia. July 26-28

Orillia is a the first good size city we have seen since Peterborough (pop. 30,000). It lies at the northern end of Lake Simcoe and has a busy waterfront and downtown area. In between chores, Tim and I have enjoyed the colorful and active town. Scattered through downtown are artistic bicycles and shops. The Saturday we were there they were having a sidewalk festival with tents set up with various wares for sale, street musicians and an evening concert in the park.

Will the real Maggie please bark? The other pooch is a puppet “Sandy” for the local production of Annie.

I’ve mentioned before that restaurants don’t allow dogs even if you’re sitting outside on a patio. If patrons bring their dog, the pup must be tied to the fence outside of the eating area.

No way Maggie would put up with this.

Weeds are a big issue up here. One way to combat them is to harvest them.

Let’s say you have a cottage on the lake here in Orillia. Let’s also say that you want to get someplace else quickly. Let’s add that you have some bucks. Here’s your toy.

Not bad, ehh?

Tomorrow we leave Orillia and continue our trek north. We hope to stay at The Big Chute marine railway. Whooo Hooo! This promises to be way cool. Stay tuned.

  1. Love the look of this town, sounds like a delightful stay. I can certainly believe that Maggie would not put up with pup parking outside of the restaurant, but glad to see she’s found an outlet as understudy for Sandy.
