Dog River, AL – Big Lagoon, FL – Panama City, FL

Tuesday, May 31-John, Dorothy and Tim packed up a rental car in Kemah and began the trip back to Serenity.   The car was packed to the gills so they had to leave some of the booze behind.  Got to Dog River, stowed all the goodies and then met Dorothy’s cousin, Kathy for dinner.  Wednesday, June 1-The next morning we met Dorothy’s nearly 102 year old grandmother, aunts and a cousin for breakfast and then began our errands- Home Depot and Publix (had to replace the booze that was left behind).  Tim worked on making a cover to sheild the stern thruster motor.  We had found that in following seas, waves would break over the back and come into the stern locker which houses the stern thruster.  Salt water and motors don’t mix, so a cover of lexan was designed.

Once chores were finished, we pushed off around 3:45, heading east on the GIWW.

Passing Lulu’s- the famous Jimmy Buffet’s sister’s place.

The plan was to anchor for the night along the way.  John had hoped to anchor at  Ingram Bayou.  We found the bottom to be too soft and muddy and after several attempts decided to move on.  We continued east to Big Lagoon.  It had a nice sandy bottom and it was easy to set anchor.  It was a late night; getting settled after 9pm.

Thursday, June 2-  After an early start, we continued along the GIWW to Panama City.  We enjoyed the dolphin who came to visit.  We tied up at the Panama City Marina.

Friday, June 3-Wandering the town we saw barricades and electrical lines being run. Evidently, the first Friday of each month is a street festival and we were going to be there for it.
