Bath, Gananoque, Kingston and more 7/7/2018

We have had a whirlwind week and I’ve been chastised for my lack of blogging.  I think I have good reason.  We’ve been pretty busy between having wonderful friends visiting us and having to deal with not wonderful boat issues.  I won’t  go into the dirty details of the problems- if you own a boat, there will always be problems- but give you just a snippet.  The dinghy motor is now in a shop in Kingston getting it’s lower end seals replaced.  We hope to have it back on board in a couple days.  Then there is the issue of the starboard starter refusing to do it’s job one day which prompted us to spend a morning contemplating its replacement.  We have determined that we do not have the ability to handle this job ourselves and have an appointment in Clayton, NY on the 12th to have someone else handle the job.  The replacement of the starter isn’t so much of an issue as the fact that two 160 lb batteries are going to have to be moved in order to get to the starter.  Tim was able to get the starter cranked by banging on it, but we aren’t going to count on that technique too often.  So, that’s the end of the bad news, now the good stuff.

Mark and Beth Atherton, our good buddies and neighbors, arrived in Kingston on the 2nd and have been a welcome addition to our trip.  They will be with us until the 11th when they fly back to sweltering Texas.  I’ll drop in some pics of the places we’ve visited with them- Portsmouth Village, Kingston, The Boldt Castle, Hill Island and the 1000 Island Tower and the 1000 Island Bridge, and now Gananoque.  Tomorrow we will spend some time in Clayton, NY before heading to Confederate Basin, Kingston, Ontario.
